Antarctica

The Antarctica is designed for the adventurer, someone who intends to travel for an extended period of time. The SHS Harness System used in this backpack is the result of three years of development by the White Mountain™ Team and has been tested extensively in South West Tasmania. The SHS Harness System used in this backpack is the successor of the SSS Harness and is a true unisex harness with contoured shoulder straps and extra material on the anchor position of the hip belt to allow true contouring over the hips. This hybrid backpack offers a greater volume than is available in equivalent travel packs in a corresponding Torso Length, while offering the advantage of both a top loading and front (panel) loading facility. While most hybrid backpacks are designed on travel pack designs, we designed this backpack on a hike pack design. We achieved this by adding a front loading panel, a side carry handle, removable daypack, shoulder sling, harness cover and a dual zipped throat closure to one of our existing hike packs. The quoted capacity of either 65 L or 75 L does not take into account the daypack capacity, nor the extra capacity achieved by extending the top lid. This would add conservatively 22 L to the quoted capacity of the Antarctica, bringing the total capacity to either 87 L or 97 L respectively. The material is 950D Kodra, one of the strongest and most durable synthetic products on the world market, and a fabric often used on military backpacks for strength and abrasive resistance. All fabric for White Mountain™ Backpacks is manufactured by Kolon Int. in Korea, a highly reputable and leading world fabric manufacturer that produces high quality synthetic materials.

There are two compartments on this backpack, not including the extended storm collar underneath the lid. The upper and lower compartments are divided by a zip division so you can use the backpack as one compartment, or two compartments. It has one suitcase carry handle on the side, a removable 15 litre daypack (that has an organiser and a facility for a water reservoir in the daypack, complete with an exit point for the water reservoir hose), one shoulder sling, and a zipped cover over the harness (the harness cover and shoulder sling can both be folded and stored at the base of the backpack). We also provide a facility to attach the daypack without using the zips, a handy option when attaching a very full daypack. Inside this backpack there is two internal compression straps with a removable organiser, a full wet proof pocket on the inside of the front loading (panel opening) lid, which is great for storing laundry, or the temporary storage of damp clothing, and six external compression straps. The two lower, or sleeping bag compression straps are long enough to accommodate a sleeping mat if required, or can also be used to strap extra gear to your backpack. There are two fixing positions on the lid of this backpack, which allows you to add further compression straps and secure more gear on top of your backpack if required.

A little heavier than the standard travel pack, but the perfect travel solution for someone requiring that extra capacity on the odd occasion.

Please Note:

  • The Current Model Antarctica 65 SHS has NO Daypack Organiser, NOR sleeve for a water reservoir and exit point for the water reservoir hose in the daypack.
  • The Antarctica 65 SYS  offered in our Specials Selection is produced in 600D Polyester Material, not 950D Kodra. It has NO organiser, NOR sleeve for a water reservoir and exit point for the water reservoir hose in the daypack.
