Torso Length Reference Tables

All recommendations, all tables, and all tables of specifications for White Mountain™ Internal Frame backpacks, assume that you have Measured your Torso Length in a Straight Line.

All tables updated as at March 2011 after further research into the correlation between White Mountain Backpacks, Frame Length, Lower Back Length, Torso Length, and Spinal Curvature. Remember the incremental adjustments on the White Mountain™ backpack harness systems assume that you have measured your Torso Length in a straight line. Regardless of Torso Length, simply subtract 3 cm if measuring along the curve of the spine to obtain the comparative figures for the tables below. Torso Length markings on White Mountain™ backpack harness systems use the Curved Torso Length measurement. Simply add 3cm to your Straight Line Torso Length measurement to find your corresponding measurement. For example, if your Straight Line Torso Length measurement is 50cm then this will correspond to 53cm on your White Mountain™ backpack harness system.

What is the Maximum Torso Length Range for each Backpack?

All tables are stated using a Torso Length Straight Line Measurement

White Mountain™ backpacks are adjustable to one size smaller, or the equivalent of one stave length shorter. Although not recommended the adjustment below provides for those wishing to purchase a larger capacity backpack, and is done as follows:

  1. First, bend the top 5 cm of the Internal Stave away from the head at approximately 30 degrees from the vertical to create a smaller Internal Stave length.
  2. Next, contour the Internal Stave to the standard of the new smaller length.
  3. Finally, position the Upper Load Stabilizer Strap 5 cm lower using the ‘Upper Load Stabiliser Strap Lower Adjustment Buckle’ provided on the backpack.

This then allows the following range of adjustment for each backpack in the table below.
