Fitting Backpacks
White Mountain™ attaches the Reference Card in this diagram to all Internal
Frame backpacks, which should serve as a ready reference on fitting all Internal
Frame backpacks.

Your backpack is properly fitted if you have ensured that:
- The Internal Staves follow the contour of the back, particularly that
the Internal Staves sit securely on the lower back and the shoulders.
- The individual has an even gap between the body and the backpack from
where the shoulder padding finishes, to where the Lumbar Support begins. This
gap between the backpack and the individuals back is to allow for adequate
ventilation, but make allowances for the padded Sliding Yoke on the EYS Harness
System and the Back Cushion on the SSS and SHS Harness System.
- NOTE: With the SYS or SHS harness system, White Mountain™ supply a Removable
Back Cushion to fill the gap between the back and the backpack to provide
further comfort. This Back Cushion is removable if further ventilation is
required and when removed will not interfere with harness performance. Position
this Removable Back Cushion on the Velcro provided, directly underneath the
Shoulder Strap padding.
- The Internal Staves do not interfere with head movement. If this is the
case, bend the length of Internal Staves above the shoulders away from the
neck and if necessary, lower the pull position of the Upper Stabilizer Straps.
- The Shoulder Straps follow the line of the back and shoulder without gapping.
- The Upper Stabilizer Straps are in the correct position below the clavicle,
25mm to 40mm lower than the top of the shoulder.
- The Hip Belt is level across or just below the hipbone or Iliac Crest.
